Empowering Families, One Grant at a Time

Supporting Mental Health and Academic Success for Our Children

Welcome to The Kokua Foundation

We aim to provide children and their families with the resources they need to thrive mentally and academically. The Kokua Foundation is the bridge for families to access family counseling and academic support.

Our Story

Kokua means “help” in the Hawaiian language. Established in 2023, The Kokua Foundation was founded to address mental health challenges unique to this generation. The pandemic, layered with increasing socioeconomic stressors, has impacted the mental health of children and their families. We recognize that being unable to keep up with grades significantly affects the mental health of children who are struggling in school. The foundation is a resource for family counseling and academic support. We are here to help.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is simple yet profound: to ensure every child and family has access to the mental health and academic support they need to succeed. We envision a future where no child’s potential is hindered by financial constraints. Our vision is a world where every child can look forward to a bright future, regardless of their socio-economic background.

Our Impact

Since our inception, we have aimed to address two critical areas:

Counseling Grants

We provide grants for Christian counseling and standard family counseling services, helping families navigate through mental health challenges with the support of licensed professionals (LMFT, LPC, LCSW).

Imagine the relief of a parent who can finally afford the counseling their child needs to overcome anxiety or depression. Picture a family finding strength and unity through guided sessions, emerging stronger and more resilient.

Academic Tutoring Grants

Our tutoring grants help children achieve academic success by providing funds for private tutoring in various subjects, covering public, private, charter, and homeschool settings.

Think about a child struggling with math, feeling hopeless and defeated. Now, picture that same child, their confidence restored, achieving grades they once thought impossible with the help of a dedicated tutor.

Why We Exist

The statistics are alarming. Mental health issues among children have skyrocketed since the pandemic. The US Surgeon General has called for increased psychological support, citing that over one in three high school students have experienced persistent sadness or hopelessness.

Additionally, academic performance has taken a hit, with many students falling behind due to pandemic-related disruptions. We exist to bridge these gaps. We believe that every child deserves a chance to succeed, and every family deserves support.
